Community Projects over the years...

In addition to the Radio-TV Auction, Rotary Club of Quesnel is also behind a number of other annual events in our community, such as the Wine Festival, Billy Barker Days Pancake Breakfast, and Cariboo Festival of Beers. Funds raised at these events, together with the Radio-TV Auction, have made possible an impressive and still growing number of investments in our community. Most of the following happened prior to 2014:
    $100,000 to the capital cost of the palliative care wing of Dunrovin Lodge which opened 4th August 2009 
    Local landmarks, such as the Rotary Little League Ball Park, Rotary RV sani-station and our very first Auction project in 1957, the Quesnel Civic Arena
    Quesnel & District Recreation Centre: $23,000 for the installation of specialized ceiling lift equipment (2004 Auction) and stretching mat; purchase of Evolv Stand & Glide (2010 Auction) and active-passive trainers; and the original planting of the Japanese Garden
    Quesnel Youth Soccer: $20,000 seed money for their magnificent Indoor Sports Facility (2002 Auction); electric golf cart for indoor and outdoor field maintenance
    $15,000 to Royal Canadian Legion towards the renovation of Legion Beach (2009 Auction)
    $20,000 to Quesnel Search & Rescue mobile command centre (2005 Auction)
    Quesnel & District Seniors’ Centre: $10,000 towards the original construction; carpet bowls equipment; sound system (2007 Auction)
    Renovation of Quesnel’s War Memorial (2006 Auction); New display case at Royal Canadian Legion
    G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital: furnishing of the 3rd floor patients and visitors lounge and of the A.L.C. unit; ambulatory blood pressure equipment; handicap recliner
    Partner-funding of the automatic doors at Quesnel Curling Rink
    Concrete picnic table for Alex Fraser Park
    C.D. Hoy photograph selection at the Community College Campus
    Timing clock technology (2012 Radio-TV Auction) at the North Cariboo Rec Centre for  our local swim clubs; Sealions and Waveriders
    Development of the video-oral history of local Chinese pioneers by the Quesnel & District Museum & Heritage Museum Commission
    “Rotary Community Access Centre” at Seasons Homeless Shelter
    S.P.C.A. dog socialization pens
    Equipment purchases for Cariboo Hoofbeats Assisted Activity Program (CHAAPS); we also part-funded the acquisition of Suzie the horse
    Barlow Creek 4-H livestock dryer, mats and grooming stands,
    Big Brothers Big Sisters – inaugural support of the Renew Crew bins; purchases of a computer desk, printer/fax and event banners
    Inaugural support of Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program in Quesnel
    Flight simulator for Air Cadets
    Books For Babies program with Quesnel Literacy and Success By 6
    West Fraser Park: $37,000 towards the original development; relocation of the caboose ; installation of the ENERGI activity equipment
    Albert Johnson Park playground equipment
    $5,000 towards the Lebourdais Park water-spray park 
    Partner-funding to Gold Rush Cycling for the Adventure Skills Bike Park
    Child Development Centre Adventure Playground; $15,000 towards the development of the Pregnancy Outreach Program facility (2008 Auction)
   Stove purchase for the Correlieu School Breakfast Programme via Quesnel Partnership for Student Nutrition
    $4,000 towards furnishing of Amata House
    $2,500 to purchase an Automated External Defibrillator for Red Bluff Firehall
    Permanent outdoor furniture at Dunrovin Lodge
    Nearly $6,000 to Quesnel Pipes & Drums to purchase new drums and related equipment
    Quesnel Live Arts – new seating at Chuck Mobley Theatre
    $4,400 to Festival of Performing Arts
    Fraser Village – funding towards the original construction and the subsequent extension; purchase of appliances
    Baker Lodge: $23,500 towards the purchase of their bus; also a wheelchair purchase
    Partner funding for the original Community Policing van
    Women’s Resource Centre exterior decorating and installation of a new covered wheelchair ramp
    $1,000 towards the 2010 and 2011 Seniors Luncheon by Bouchie Lake Recreation Commission Society
    Co-sponsorship of Quesnel Aquatics swim-with-the Olympians “SuperFish Camp”
    Gavin Lake Forest Education Society: many equipment purchase and facility upgrades, most recently boardwalk and bridge reconstruction
    Quesnel Horseshoe Club facility upgrades
    Quesnel Figure Skating laser printer
    Gold Pan Home Emergency Response Society (GoPHERS) Lifeline response units
     Touch-screen monitor for Seniors Advocacy Service
    Annual support of Quesnel Good Cheer, and Child Development Centre; and numerous equipment and similar purchases for Quesnel Food Bank, Quesnel Minor Hockey, Quesnel Ringette Association, Quesnel Home Support Services Society, Quesnel Environmental Society, Quesnel Lakers Wheelchair Basketball, Quesnel Minor Ball, Quesnel Girls Softball, Two Rivers Boxing, Quesnel Technics Gymnastics, Quesnel & Districts Arts Council, Quesnel Special Olympics, Lightning Creek Ski Club, North Cariboo Comprehensive Youth Centre, Quesnel Aquatics, Quesnel Aboriginal Chronic Disease Primary Prevention Program, Quesnel Exhibition & Fair
    Student Exchange – students to and from Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Holland, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, South Africa, Sweden and Switzerland
    In conjunction with funding support from BC Gaming – Seniors’ Trip to Barkerville, annual scholarships to Quesnel Secondary School and Correlieu Secondary School; youth development opportunities such as Adventure in Citizenship, Adventure in Industry, Adventure in Forestry, Adventure in Tourism, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, aka RYLA Lakelse, RYLA South and RYLA North ( speak with any Rotarian for details)
