We are honored to welcome Solon Fire Chief Mark Vedder.   Chief Mark Vedder will discuss the way that Solon Fire-Rescue continues to evolve to meet the needs of the community, including discussion on the aging population and their needs when staying in their homes, the continuing challenge of narcotic overdoses, the changes required by COVID 19 and the impact on the department, and how we work together with other city departments to care for our residents and businesses.

Mark Vedder is a 45 year veteran of the fire service, currently serving as the Fire Chief of the City of Solon. He is also a Hazmat/WMD Specialist and the Director of the Chagrin/Southeast Hazardous Materials Response Team for the past 30 years. The team responds to chemical emergencies in 34 cities in eastern Cuyahoga County and Western Geauga County. He chairs the Ohio Hazardous Materials Technical Advisory Committee for the Ohio Emergency Management Agency. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire Safety Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and does some part-time teaching for several local universities and the Ohio Fire Academy. He lives in Chagrin Falls with his wife, Ellita, who is the Executive Captain of the Warrensville Heights Fire Department.  They enjoy camping, kayaking, grandkids and travel.
