Health Economics

The healthcare sector, now representing more than one-sixth of the U.S. economy in terms of economic activity, continues to change in unimaginable ways. A fundamental transformation of the US medical care system is underway in which healthcare policymakers, payers, providers, and innovators are intensely focused on redesigning healthcare. Healthcare policy is also an area where economics has much to contribute.  Join us for a conversation about what the economics of health policy.

Important topics include:

* What is Health(care) Economics?
* Important facts about the U.S. health economy.
* Comparing health care systems and institutions.
* Health insurance and reform
* Big Pharma

The national conversation often centers around misinformation about how the U.S. healthcare system performs relative to other countries.  This conversation will attempt to discern some facts from hyperbole. This lecture is for anyone interested in healthcare, frustrated with the current system, or who would like to learn more about the real and actual American health care system.
