  • Please note: It is our tradition to thank our weekly servers from Best Events, Gabby and Sam, at Christmas. We will be 'passing the hat' on 12.19 and collecting a free will donation for them. If you would like to thank them for the service they give us each week, please bring $, or give to another Rotarian who will be attending if you cannot.
  • Note on your Calendars: No meetings will be held on 12.26 and 1.2.
  • Raffle: Mary Wilmer won the daily pot ($96) and JP of $142 rolls over
Today was our annual Joint Service Club Meeting at Pontiac CC. Clubs were represented by Kelli Cameron- Morning Rotary, Sandy Hines- ABWA Park City Chapter, Richard Johnson-Retired Kiwanis, Holly Jensen- Noon Kiwanis, and Henry Havlick- Noon Lions. Each detailed some of the community service projects they support, and the combined tally of projects was impressive!
Our featured speaker was Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. He recalled that his first public speech was in 1998 at the Elks Club for Noon Rotary. There was plenty of good-natured 'trash talk' reminiscing about Janesville and Beloit School rivalries , reminding us that most of us in the room have plenty of history in common. He sketched out the 6 part vision the GOP leadership plans to tackle during the new Administration- details can be found on http://abetterway.speaker.gov/. He spoke of having his work / life balance in a good place, which was applauded. We appreciate him taking time out from his busy schedule to speak to us today!

On Wednesday, over breakfast with the Rotary Club of Wahroonga, New South Wales, Australian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dick Smith announced a donation of AU$1 million to Rotary (about US$750,000), citing admiration of Rotary members for the time they devote to others. The Rotary Australia Benevolent Society (RABS) will administer the funds. “With 29,500 Rotarians in 1,100 clubs throughout Australia, we have an army of volunteers eager to assist those in need,” says Michael Perkins, RABS chair. “The impact of this donation will be felt throughout all of Australia, from the cities to the...

Though Atlanta has seen its share of violence and inequity over time, today it brims with reminders that there is another way. Get inspired while you’re visiting for the 2017 Rotary International Convention from 10 to 14 June. Take a short walk from the convention center to the Center for Civil and Human Rights. There, you can see the handwritten notes, speeches, and sermons of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., experience an interactive 1960s-era lunch counter “sit-in,” and learn more about persecuted groups all over the world. A streetcar will take you to the Martin Luther King Jr...
