Our guest today was by Home Health United

We Honor Veterans is a pioneering campaign developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs. The programs assists health care providers throughout the country learn how to better care for patients with military service by recognizing the challenges they may be facing. Home Health United joined this program in 2014.

The resources provided by We Honor Veterans focus on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgement which is coupled with Veteran-centered education for health care staff and volunteers.

Participating agencies educate their staff and volunteers about the differences of each war and the unique experiences and complications to the Veterans who served in them. The goal of the program is to better guide Veterans and their families toward a better health outcome or more peaceful end-of-life journey. For Veterans who experienced combat service or other trauma, this knowledge and sensitivity can be particularly important as experience from the past may resurface during a serious illness.

While the We Honor Veterans program is typically adopted by hospice agencies to help Veterans navigate end-of-life, Home Health United is not limiting the program to our hospice patients. Home Health United is implementing the program across our home care and palliative care service lines as well because we believe that anyone with military service being cared for anywhere in our organization deserves this specialized care and support.

There are over 21 million US Veterans, with approximately 121,000 homeless & without health care. 40% are over the age of 65. 50,000 veterans die each month, and less than 40% are in VA facilities. The greatest percentage will be serviced by community hospices.

Outside the United Nations building in midtown Manhattan stands an imposing sculpture of a man wielding a sword in one hand and raising a hammer with the other. It reflects a shared goal that Rotary and the United Nations celebrated at the organizations' annual meeting on Saturday, 12 November: to use our strengths and tools to build a more peaceful and just world. The theme of this year's Rotary Day at the United Nations, "Responsible Business, Resilient Societies," emphasizes Rotary's role as a global network of business leaders using the tools of their trades to build stronger, more...

Your district could earn a visit from Rotary International President-elect Ian H.S. Riseley by contributing District Designated Funds (DDFs) to support the Miles to End Polio fundraising goal. On 19 November, Rotary General Secretary John Hewko and a team of Rotary staff will join Rotary members to bike up to 104 miles in El Tour de Tucson, an annual bicycle race in Arizona, USA, to raise funds for PolioPlus. The team's goal is $3.5 million, which will be tripled by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, for a total of more than $10 million. Last year, Rotary members in Tucson along with...

While the picturesque Valley of 1,000 Hills outside Durban, South Africa, offers stunning scenery to visitors, job prospects for the Zulu people who live on tribal land there are bleak. Three years ago, the nearby Rotary Club of Hillcrest addressed the unemployment rate by partnering with Embocraft, a skills training group serving the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The group offers classes in sewing, computers, textiles, welding, and woodwork, with the goal of alleviating poverty. Hillcrest Rotarians have co-sponsored four sewing courses, each lasting 15 sessions, for Zulu seniors or others who...
