We learned last Thursday from guest speaker Rev. Mary Kay Brown that St. David's Episcopal Church is collecting items to be shipped to Liberia in the effort to fight the spread of the Ebola virus. The "Liberia Wish List" of needed items is available to view and purchase at the attached Amazon.com link. A leadership seminar for Interact Club Members of Briar Woods, Broad Run, and Stone Bridge High Schools will be held on October 26 from 1:00pm - 5:00pm at the Ashburn Library. Topics will cover various student leadership areas and will be a great day of learning and interaction. Space is limited so signing up early is encouraged. Interested students should send their name, contact info, and high school name to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Join us for Rotary Day on October 23rd from 12:00p - 1:30p at 1757 Golf Club. Rotary International President Gary C.K. Huang has urged all Rotary members to Light Up Rotary and organize and host a Rotary Day in 2014 - 2105. Our special guests will be Beamer Book author Cindy Chambers and Loudoun County Fire & Rescue Chief Keith Brower, Jr. Members are also encouraged to bring a prospective Ashburn Rotary member as a guest. The meeting will be our club's opportunity to showcase Rotary and talk about all of the great things Ashburn Rotary is doing in the community.
Ashburn Rotarians & Friends of Rotary took some time on Saturday September 20th to provide help for a Purcellville resident in need. The team completed some yard work, painting and general clean-up. It was a beautiful Saturday and we're looking forward to more opportunities to serve.

President Doug Corbett awarded the August Rotarian of the Month to Lisa Svendsen on September 18th. The award is presented to a club member in recognition of their contributions to the Rotary Club of Ashburn and in appreciation of their hard work and dedication to the club. Lisa was recognized for her role in the successful Ronald McDonald House dinner service project on August 4th. Lisa planned the dinner and worked with other project members once they were on site to prepare meals. Her enthusiasm and desire to serve set the tone for the evening!
President Doug Corbett awarded Ashburn Rotary's first "Rotarian of the Month" award on September 4th. The awarded is presented to a club member in recognition of their contributions to the Rotary Club of Ashburn and in appreciation of their hard work and dedication to the club. Our first award winner, Linda Carducci, was July's Rotarian of the Month and the first award recipient. Linda was recognized for all of her hard work both at the board level and behind the scenes preparing for the 2014 - 2015 Rotary year.

You are invited to attend Rotary Day at the United Nations on Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 9:30a - 4:00p (Registration opens at 8:00a). Each year at Rotary UN Day, more than 1,300 Rotarians including many Rotary International Directors, Foundation Trustees, past Senior Leaders, and guests come together at UN Headquarters in New York. The program is designed to inspire and educate all participants as well as provide insight into the relationship between Rotary and the United Nations.

On August 4th, members of the Rotary Club of Ashburn prepared a meal for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House at Fairfax Hospital. Great fun and a great way to serve! Thank you to Lisa Svendsen, Kelly Yost, Marc Benezra, Peggy Durbin, and Linda Carducci for volunteering their time.
