  • Special Childrens Friends Playground Grant Project has been completed… Clyde Cushing thanked all Rotarians that volunteered on Thursday and Saturday of last week.
  • Clyde reminded us of the Blue Hill Fair Pie Booth service project… you can bake a pie or help staff the booth.
  • Jane Langley reminded all Rotarians that on September 7th our weekly meeting will be a visit to Sarah’s House with dinner following at the Lucerne Inn for those who wish to partake.
  • President Tracy Shafer announced that we are sending our thoughts to Past President Scott Kimball on the loss of his mother
  • Next Week’s Rotary Meeting Speaker will be Maine Secretary of State, Matt Dunlap… the Ellsworth Noontime and Bar Harbor Rotary Clubs have been invited to attend.
  • 80% of the first half Membership Dues have been received by Treasurer Dom Efter
 
Program/Speaker:
District Governor, Marcel Noel from the Quebec Club shared the following thoughts / thanks / reflections / and challenges:
  • Thanked the Board and Club for the warm welcome and sharing all the goals and good work the Club is doing to “BE THE INSPIRATION” to The World!
  • Get the Word out into the Community What Rotary Is and What We Do
  • Only 40% of the general public knows what Rotary Does… this gives us a 60% growth opportunity!
  • GROW OR DIE… District 7790 has been averaging a 1% loss of membership over the past several years
  • Work hard at our Public Image / Public Relations and put the word out on Social Media
  • Use the “I AM Rotary” sign and campaign in more publicity and recruitment efforts
  • Keep up the stron history of our Club Giving to the Foundation: ANNUAL FUND = HUMANITARIAN SERV ICE
  • BE THE INSPIRATION FOR POSITIVE CHANGE IN ALL LEVELS
  • New Vision Statement: “Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.”
  • DG Marcel presented three citations: One to our club commending our International Dominican Wheelchair Project from last March; One to ‘First Lady’ Debbie Ehrlenbach for all her support of PDG Lincoln Ehrlenbach during his term as DG last Year; and one to Cindy Shoppe for chairing our very successful Annual Blueberry Pancake Breakfast for many years
  • DG Marcel Noel ended by challenging us to think outside the box and find new ways to attract new members to Rotary with a focus on the Young / Women / and Families!
  • DG Marcel completed his presentation with a slide show introducing his Governor’s Project which will help and aid Persons with Disabilities in LesCayes, Haiti. The focus of the project will be the Recognition of the Potential of Persons with Disabilities and Support for their Development and fighting against the Maeginalization of Persons with Disabilities.
  • DG Marcel reminded us of and encouraged attendance at the District Conference which will be held on May 3-4-5 at  outside of St, George
In Closing:
Club President Tracy Shaffer:
  • Presented a check from our club in the amount of $1,000 US Dollars in support of the Governor’s Project to LesCayes, Haiti
  • Gave DG Marcel and Nicolas some strong coffee to support all those late nights travelling across District 7790 visiting clubs
  • Presented an ‘Object of Rotary’ plaque to DG Marcel
  • Gave a Blueberry Pancake Breakfast hat to DG Marcel
  • Gave a Rotary Book of Inspirations in support and encouragement of RI President’s Be the Inspiration Theme for this year
