Obituary - Mark Ozawa, Husband, Father, Son, Friend & Rotarian

Today, October 29th 2016 we received the truly sad news that Marked passed away in the US after a struggle with cancer.  Mark was the manager at Windjammer Landing Resort for the past six years.  In his short stay in Saint Lucia, Mark touched many lives.  For those of you who did not have the privilege of knowing Mark, to get a better appreciation of just who he was take a look at his face book page.  Rotary mourns another son.

Our sincere condolences go to Linda and Marks entire family.  May he rest in peace and may God be with his family and friends as they grapple with this sad loss.

13 Days Left to Golf Tournament

The Annual Charity Golf Tournament is virtually upon us.  Members of the club (for the most part)  and members of the Golf Association have been working hard to ensure the success of this year's tournament.  The result looks like being a successful tournament for Sponsors, Players and RCGI's Charity fund raising.
We have over 30 Sponsors signed up and we are making good progress towards selling our Raffle tickets.
Great work team.  Stay focused, we are nearly there.

RCSL 50th Charter Anniversary
At a grand event being hosted tonight at the Sandals Grand Hotel, Rotarians of the RC Saint Lucia mark their 50th Anniversary of Rotary in Saint Lucia.  In last weeks bulletin I did a short piece on the Club itself.  This week, I am only able to send this as a congratulatory message given lack of resources.

As I write this on Sunday morning, President Astrid is about to raise a toast to the members of the Rotary Club of Saint Lucia, on Saturday evening.

World Interact Week October 31 to November 6

Having recently pinned 41 young people in the Interact Club of Babonneau Secondary School, members of RCGI are determined to inform members and the public of the advantages that Interact brings to the young people and to the community.  I have extracted the following from the RI website for your ease of information.  Most of us are simply too busy to browse the internet for information unless it is on our radar so I hope this will serve the purpose of bringing Interact on to your radar.

Interact

Interact is a club for young people ages 12-18 who want to join together to tackle the issues in their community that they care most about. Through Interact, you can:

  • Carry out hands-on service projects
  • Make international connections
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Have fun!

World Polio Day Event - October 24th

Rotary’s World Polio Day event looks ahead to ending the disease for good

Dennis Ogbe, Paralympian and polio survivor, tells his personal story of the disease at Rotary’s World Polio Day event on 24 October 2016 at the headquarters of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

While the fight to eradicate polio suffered a blow this year when the virus re-emerged in Nigeria, Rotary leaders and top health experts focused Monday on the big picture: the global presence of the paralyzing disease has never been smaller.
