News
Happening - August 21st 2016

Last week, PP Jonathan was taken ill and ended up in hospital for a couple of days.  I am pleased to report that he is making a good recovery and is at home.  We all wish him a complete recovery in the shortest possible time.

Happily, Rtn. Len is also continuing her steady recovery and we hope to see her back out and about in a few weeks.

At our regular meeting on August 16th, we were delighted to welcome back Linda Saturno, Peace Corps volunteer and to welcome Sunil Ramdeen who has recently moved to Saint Lucia with Sandals Resorts.  Great to have you join us at lunch folks, please come back again soon.

Golf Tournament planning continues a pace.  All request letters have now been dispatched and we should have the Raffle Prizes tied down by the end of this week so that tickets can be printed for distribution end of week 1 in September.  Books will consist of 10 tickets with $25 value.  Every 2 books sold entitles the seller to a free ticket or $25.  This is intended to incentivize non Rotarian sellers.

Members asked to contribute US$500 each to TRF this year by District 7030 Foundation Chair Hervé!

The Role of the Chairman in Effective Meetings Part 4
So far we have dealt with:
  • Why we need Effective Meetings
  • What makes an effective Chairman
  • Phase 1 - Planning for the meeting
  • Phase 2 - Setting up the meeting, and
  • Phase 3 - Running the meeting
Remember if you missed any of these topics you only have to go to the RCGI website at www.rotarygi.org and look at the last issues of the bulletin on the right hand side of the Home Page.
This is an extract from a course offered on line at the Rotary Learning centre at www.rotary.org

Here we will look at:
  • Phase 4 - Following up on the meeting
  • Tips to handle difficult members
  • Preventions and finally
  • A few ideas to help you summarize your role
Let me know if you found this series interesting and useful (or not).

Rotaract Club of Gros Islet Leadership Training
Team Rotaract - Gros Islet Shortly after Training Session on Leadership concluded on Sunday August 14th.
From Left to Right: Curtly Stephen, Treasurer; Carlyn Joseph, President; Natacha Stava, Club Administration Chair; Robin Branford, Professional Development Chair; Minerva Gustave, Secretary and International Service Chair.

After an ice beaker the group settled into a discussion on leadership by first identifying the leader that they most admire.  Participants came up with some interesting choices, all of whom were discussed and the traits of leadership examined putting substance to the choices made.

Professional Development Chair Robin thanked PP Lisle for his presentation.

Our Rotaractors are a great group of young people who need our help.  Members are strongly encouraged to help as much as we can.  This is the future of Rotary folks and a project of our making.

Hand Over of GoTo Supports

Winchester Rotary combined with PP Lisle Chase to Supply a Number of GoTo Supports for Needy Children

GoTo Support being demonstrated as support for child sitting on a chair .
GoTo Support makes it possible for children to use the wheel chairs safely
GoTo supports make it safe for children to enjoy the swing

These versatile supports are light weight yet sturdy.  They can be used in the home and in the car.  Thanks to the generosity of the Rotary Club of Winchester UK, who contributed £1,000 towards the purchase of the supports, many of the wheelchair users can now sit up in their wheelchairs safely.  This will greatly assist in the correction of posture and ultimately to the quality of life for these children.  See more pictures at Hand Over of GoTo SupportsAlso see Social Media
