WATER TO JUTICALPA

Clean water is the key to most things in life. It literally keeps us alive; clean and healthy. For many of us, this is something we do not even think about as all we need to do is turn the tap on anywhere in our home.  But for many, access to clean and safe drinkable water is a challenge. The number of people whom find themselves in this predicament is growing annually, but solutions are available. It simply takes money and knowledge.

Pedro Nufio School, Politilly Bight

The new classroom building is underway at P. Nufio School in Politilly Bight. The school approached local residents Janice Carter and Don Rocks to help buy a few blocks to start a new classroom. The students were meeting in the outdoors because the other 2 classrooms were overcrowded. This morphed into a project supported by the Roatan Children's Fund and Rotary Club of Roatan. At the ground breaking ceremony the village volunteer workers with the help of  Mr. Carson Dilbert had prepared the area, trenched the main outline and begun laying the blocks. The classroom will also have a small storage facility for sports equipment and supplies. Rotary President, Dr. Charles Parchment spoke on behalf of Rotary Club of Roatan reminding students that education is one of the most important elements of their lives. Rotary will not only contribute monies for materials for the classroom but will also repair the bathrooms as part of it's Banos Para Ninos Project. Dr Parchment hopes this type project will be supported in many more schools in need on Roatan.

A Letter from a dear friend of Rotary...

Posted by llias Scott on Oct 13, 2011
"...just a quick note about French Harbour police station. I have vivid memories of the condition of the police stations 2 years ago...they were in ill repair and uncared for. Several months ago, while I was out panhandling I was given a 5 burner gas stove that was gently used. (SolGas hooked it up from free) It sat for quite a while so I offered to remove it if it was in the way. NO...William Velesquez had an idea. The idea it seems was to build a kitchen area to house the stove....
