Minutes of January 25, 2016

President Bill Brillant rang the bell promptly at 07:15, leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance and then calling on Pastor Ron McLaughlin for the Invocation. Bill apologized for missing the previous meeting on January 11. A fallen tree from a storm had taken down his power line and he was waiting for CMP to show up. Bill welcomed guest speaker Phil Giordano to the meeting then called on Bill Gillespie for Happy / Sad dollars. Bill, as did others had sad dollars for the Patriots loos to Denver. Bill also continued his weekly countdown until the start of spring training. Bill Brillant had a sad dollar for relatives in Virginia snowed in by the blizzard over the weekend. Bob Guerette had happy dollar for spending time with friends over the weekend. Bob Beaumont had a happy dollar for being able to babysit his 7 month old grandchild over the weekend, happy but exhausted. Ron McLaughlin, lifetime Giants fan, had, for the first time ever, kind words for Tom Brady’s performance at the end of the game, nearly bringing the Pat’s to a tie as the game ended. Bob Davis added happy dollars for living to hear Ron say positive things about the Patriots. Gordon Donley happy dollar and told a very poor joke. Cliff had a rough morning spilling a full cup of coffee as he tried to tell of his weekend activities.

Under Announcements Bob Beaumont requested members sign up to participate in the annual Success by Six Read Aloud on March 1. Our Club is a major sponsor of the event.

Bob Davis gave a brief update on planning for the Music at the Museum event, scheduled for Friday, February 12. More to come next Monday, February 1 as that will be our topic for the day.

Prez. Bill then introduced our guest speaker, Rotarian Phil  Giordano from the Scarborough Club. Phil is the volunteer Co-Chair leader of our districts RYLA program, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. RYLA is a Rotary sponsored program for High School youth, not limited to Interact Club members, to provide leadership training for use throughout their lives. Our District program is a 4 day outdoor, interactive program for students who have completed their Sophomore year of High School. It is held at Camp Hinds in late June. Clubs nominate students to participate and are encouraged to contribute to the funding of the program. The program is in it’s 25th year with a maximum of 144 kids per year participating.

An informative program on a topic most of us had heard about but did not know any specifics.
