Fighting Human Trafficking in Maine

Human Trafficking for labor and/or commercial sexual exploitation is happening HERE in Maine and Just Love is taking it on! Formed in July 2017, Just Love has already worked with many survivors, providing clothing and toiletries as well as a listening ear and Just Love. They have established a "Basement Boutique" consisting of gently used clothing for job interviews, casual wear, athletic wear, baby clothes and make-up. This is a safe and private place where women can come and "shop" with dignity, pick out a new wardrobe and reclaim their personal style. They have connected with Law Enforcement, Social Services, Preble Street, Not Here, and Survivor Speak to supply Just Love Bags filled with toiletries and seek ways to engage.

In November, 2017, 20 people graduated from an 8-week program called Engage Together. In this program, the group studied 5 important categories to consider when tackling Human Trafficking; Prevention, Identification, Rescue, Restoration and Reform, seeking ways the Eastpoint Church can come alongside existing organizations to provide support and expertise in ending human trafficking. Each one of these categories shows extraordinary potential for developing trainers and educators, working with our State politicians to submit legislation for stricter laws against trafficking and provide victim support. Additionally, they are looking at developing a 24- hour local hotline, expanding Maine's only Safe House and provide mentoring for survivors as they rebuild their lives. 

Any donations are used here in greater Portland and go directly to victim/survivor support and awareness.
