Meeting Opening:
Chair of the day, Therese Robinson reflecting on International Women’s Day in the preceding week, proposed a toast to women in Rotary and the men supporting them.
 
Visitors Welcomed:
  • Keith Kendall, a visiting Rotarian from Kew who will join the Club shortly
  • Nick Clift, for the last time before he joined the Club, along with his wife, Jenny
  • Dominic Varrasso, a guest of President Frank
Announcements:
  • Alan Seale confirmed a meeting of the Vocational Team would be held at the conclusion of the Club’s meeting
  • Herb Greenwood advised there are plans to hold Opera on the Yarra again next year after favourable comments and successful fundraising, although the final financial result is yet to be determined. He also advised the Fundraising Team would meet at the conclusion of the Club’s meeting.
  • Peter Duras reported another successful fundraising BBQ at Bunnings on 12 March, netting around $1300.  He thanked those who assisted.  
  • President Frank’s report included:
    • special thanks to Peter and Sue Duras for their hard work in organising the fundraising BBQ’s which have now raised over $5,000 this year.  He also thanked those that had volunteered to assist at this latest BBQ.
    • confirmation that Campbell Chambers was still riding somewhere north of Melbourne and will eventually be heading to Warrnambool for the Conference and along the way raising funds for Rotary Ovarian Cancer Research (RoCan).
    • advice that he, Rob Soros, Sarah Overton and Peter Duras had the pleasure of representing the Club at a garden party at Government House, in honour of RI President Ian Risely.
    • a comment that the Club would be well represented at Melbourne Rotary Club’s annual Angus Mitchell Oration
    • asked for some volunteers for a BBQ at the Immigration Museum in support of the international student’s welcome
Induction – Nick Clift
   President Frank inducted Nick Clift into the Club and members welcomed him and wife Jenny. Nick will join Youth Services Team with Stuart Ellis and Roger Thornton will act as mentor
Responding, Nick mentioned he had been a member of sister Club Echuca-Moama for some 6 years.  He and Jenny are now living in Kensington from where they  .run their IT business and have their two sons working with them
He is keen to make that re-connection with the community through Rotary.
