Australia

“6,000 years of the trachoma scourge but we can end it all by 2030.”

Ian Wishart is one of Australia’s most accomplished CEOs in the global humanitarian sector, having worked at virtually every level of international development from relief operations to policy and advocacy initiatives.

Ian started his development career at World Vision Australia, initially as an emergency relief officer deployed to the major emergency hot spots of the early 1990s. His diverse country experience has seen him work in places including Cambodia, Laos, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, South Sudan and Rwanda.

Prior to his current role, Ian was CEO of Plan International Australia and led its transformation from a $10 million operation into a $63 million organisation.

Ian became CEO of The Fred Hollows Foundation in May 2018 and continues to advance Fred’s mission by helping to create real solutions for those trapped in poverty by preventable blindness.

Join us to hear Ian speak about the impact trachoma has had on people’s lives for thousands of years; the progress The Fred Hollows Foundation and Rotary International are now making to eliminate it; and how he is leading Fred Hollows through and beyond the interruption of COVID.
