Today was Karen's first full meeting as President for 2016/2017.  We were addressed by the RYLA attendees Logan and Lauren.   And Eric Hammer received his Blue badge!

SLV Rotary meeting notes
July 13th, 2016
 
  • Karen rang the bell at 7:30 AM
  • Cameron led us in the Pledge
  • Joe had the Thought for the Day
  • Carol introduced our visiting Rotarian Franziska Sievers, and our guests, the RYLA attendees Logan Meek and his mother, and Lauren Lozier and her mother.
  • Eric received his Blue Badge from Karen
  • Charlie and Karen led us in our state song.
  • Karen called up Linda, Joe, Don and Charlie who were unable to attend the Debunking and gave each of them a Rotary Serving Humanity pin and a yo yo to give to Mike.
  • Karen talked about the upcoming Thomas the Train Engine fundraising event and members were asked to sign up for a day or two, or pay $50 to the club.
Signups were made available and she asked if they could be turned in today if possible.
  • Karen told us the DG visit will be October 26th and the Governor’s project is related to literacy.  Clubs will be asked to collect funds that will go toward purchasing books to go to kids in the District.
  • Linda had a plea for books for the SLV HS and Middle school libraries.  If members have any art books, or textbooks, etc. please bring them to Linda.
  • Bill was the Detective and challenged us with general trivia
  • Karen introduced our RYLA attendees Logan and Lauren who spoke about their RYLA experiences and answered questions from the group.
  • Karen asked for a show of hands of the members if they would like to continue meeting at Casa Nostra and the majority voted in favor.
  • Karen called up Ralph and after presenting him with a Rotary Serving Humanity pin she introduced him as the new RYLA Chairperson.
  • Karen asked for a volunteer to be the contact person for the club and to relay the  “head count” for breakfast each week and Brenda volunteered.  Members who will not be attending a meeting need to let Brenda know by Monday night of that week.  Brenda will relay the number of members attending to Casa Nostra on Tuesday.  Karen will send an email reminder to the club with Brenda’s email address.
  • Cameron led the club in the 4 Way test with Karen accompanying him on the bell. ;-)
  • Karen told us about the upcoming District Leadership Conference on August 26th.  Karen said she is planning on going to the RI Conference in Atlanta and hopes many in the club will go to the District Conference to be held at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
  • Mike spoke briefly about the Zone Foundation meeting he attended recently as club Foundation Chair.  He told us this is the 100th anniversary of the Foundation and we will be hearing a lot about that this year.
  • Carol’s raffle number was chosen but she didn’t pick the Joker.
