Guest Speaker: Sheriff Jim Hart was raised in Santa Cruz, lives in Scotts Valley and was elected Sheriff in 2014. The Sherriff spoke about the use of excessive force in the country and is implementing 79 recommendations for 21st Century Plan for law enforcement. Santa Cruz County will be the first agency in California is to adopt these recommendations. There are 3 new laws that went into effect in January: AB 66 - body cameras, AB 953 - reporting of demographics for all officer stops, and AB 71 all injuries when force is used. Crime is actually very low in the county and it is estimated to be at the same level as the early 1960s.
