One of the first female Courtenay Rotarians 20 years later
1989 - male only clubs around the world
November 1989 RI board issues a policy recognizing the right of rotary in Canada to admin Females
Eliminate require to limit membership to men and women were welcomed
Courtenay club - 1996 was an only male club and late in adopting policy
50% of the club threatened to leave the club at the time
Knowing the history is critical
What she is proud of is that the issue of gender we are a peaceful club and the change happened after a peaceful push (Supreme court ruling)
Neil Woodrow - did not want the club for few years
It was difficult showing up as a young professional 30 year old woman and feel welcomed. 20 years ago
she wanted to be a source of peaceful means.
Fellowship: motivated by a team to help move sister to VGH or she would die. Pauline asked for help. Rotarians jumped on board to help Pauline. On the national news with our club help to make some noise. She got years more of her life.
On her 52nd birthday, after 20 years of as a member, she is really honoured to be a Rotarian
