The Gavel

I just realized that the snow has melted and I haven't worn my parka in a couple of weeks.  We're on our way!!!!  Summer concert series are right around the corner!  And Jay Seyler, like the inveterate robin, is a sure sign of Spring.  He's got his lists and he's checking them twice (wait...wrong season) - so let's all get a move on and make Jay's job a little easier.  The ads are what keep us going, so the more the merrier (and more liquid) we are.

Last week we heard from Mary Reordan Johnson, Executive Director of the Springfield YWCA.  A bit of reality about some very serious issues involving abuse.  The program went longer than planned and no one left - that speaks volumes for the speaker and the subject matter!

Joy Roman has announced that Charter Night (annual club assembly and semi-formal dinner) will be on Thursday, June 4th at Twin Hills.  Cocktail hour will begin at 6:00pm followed by dinner and the usual festivities.  Always a great night and an opportunity to see spouses, significant others and partners of Rotarians.

The scholarship awardees will be at our June 11th regular meeting!

Don't forget the District 7890 Training Assembly on Wednesday, May 13th at the Holiday Inn in Enfield.  Breakfast at 7:15 am.  Sign up online or see Adele.

Also, District 7890 "End Polio Night at the Rock Cats" on May 29th in Bristol, CT.  Pre-game picnic at 5:30 PM; game starts at 6:35 at the ball park.  $22 for all you can eat BBQ, $12 for reserved game ticket.  All clubs present to be recognized and throw out the first pitch.  $4 of every ticket sold will go to the "End Polio Now" campaign.

See you Thursday!

Quote for the week: "When I get older losing my hair many years from now will you still be sending me a valentine, birthday greetings, bottle of wine? If I'd been out till quarter to three would you lock the door? Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm sixty-four?"  John Lennon, Paul McCartney (where did all those "many" years go?)
