Extra! Extra! Latest RCAAN News
The March 6th Rotary meeting got off to a great start with blue skies and sunshine that we hadn’t seen in what seems like ages.

Following our usual meeting traditions of the pledge, prayer of thanksgiving (thank you Jeff Crause) and singing the national anthems of our two great nations, we finished with "Somehere Over the Rainbow" as a tribute to the Oscars.  Greeter Scott Nelson announced our three visitors:  Mike and Assistant District Governor Jane McManus and visiting Rotarian Bruce Dunbar from the Ann Arbor West club. Welcome to all!

President Keith provided an update about our fellow Rotarians who are recuperating from the ravages of winter:

Gail Scott is recovering nicely from knee surgery at Glacier Hills. She requests that if you come to visit that you don’t wear scrubs!

Past Prez. Laura Van Steenis is sick with a cold/flu.

Eric Tindall has fallen victim to the winter double whammy. After recovering from a broken elbow he now has a broken wrist from a fall.

Gordon Nordy is doing well and looking forward to April 1st so that he can get out and about. Vern is recuperating nicely in the warm sunny atmosphere of Florida.

Golden Age of Hollywood Update
President Keith Krings had some bad news:  about our speaker needed to reschedule due to illness.  The good news was that Lisa Hudy had some things she wanted to share with us about our annual fund raiser scheduled in just three weeks.

Lisa started cracking the proverbial whip by telling us that there are only 22 days until our major fundraising event of the year.  Our goal is to exceed the $10,000 raised last year. Committee Chair Laura Van Steenis made a great start by increasing the number and size of sponsorships for this year's 'Golden Age of Hollywood'. This year's sponsors include:

Executive Producer - Jeff Crause of Edward Jones

Starring - Abbey Park at Mill River and ATI Physical Therapy

Screenwriters - Charles Reinhart Realtors, Holiday Inn, Nie Funeral Home, Gordon & Virgina Nordby and United Bank & Trust

Food Stylist/Chocolate Fountain - Dan & Laura Van Steenis, Jane Mc Manus/Micro Works Computing

Cinematographer - Mike McManus

Scenic Director - Gail Scott

Script Supervisor/Trivial Pursuit - Manish & Varsha Mehta

With another crack of her whip Lisa told us that an even bigger part of the fundraiser is the Silent Auction. Brigitte Romero has about 25 items so far and can always use more. It is very important to get the descriptions and/or items to Brigitte by next week at the latest. Brigitte is also asking for help in setting up the auction items on the day of the fundraiser.

Lisa strongly suggested that we start selling raffle tickets...aka our little yellow beauties.  Please have all ticket stubs, money, and any stray little tickets back to their managers Tammy & Don Broderick or Lisa by no later than March 20th. The profits to be gained by moving the little lovelies is $3600.00 (OH Yeah) Buuuttt if we are not successful then the profit margin drops off a cliff! Sooo please make every effort to move the yellow darlings onto their new owners and adventures.

Just to make sure we truly appreciated the gravity of the situation Lisa cracked the whip again to tell us about the best part of the fundraiser. Dinner reservations were starting to trickle in. We really need to get those reservations in ASAP. The website now has a PayPal button so that everyone can register and buy their tickets in one place. There is really no excuse not to get your reservations, your friend’s reservations, family and anyone else you may invites reservations in soon and by any means possible!

Tamra reviewed the script for the evening and reminded everyone that we need to a) be prepared to deal with paparazzi and b) no dancing on the tables this year.  Aside from these two restrictions she asked for Assistant Lighting Designers to help load in gear at 1:00 and load out when the last dancer leaves the floor.  Manish and Tammy volunteered to help with moving gear.

President Keith wrapped up the meeting by reminding everyone that in addition to donating time, talent and treasure (silent auction stuff), the absolute best way to support our efforts is to attend the event and bring your friends and adoring public.  We hope that you will join us as we dance the night way at the Golden Age of Hollywood FUNdraiser on March 29!

This Week's Happy Dollars
Because of the influence of the blue skies and sunshine lots of people were happy enough to share not only their good fortune but their dollars too.

Jack Edelstein started things off with greetings from the Chelsea Rotary.

Jeff Crause continued the happiness with his appreciation of the nice weather and how the fundraiser was on the horizon.
Bruce Dunbar brought greetings from the Ann Arbor West club and to update us on a project that the A2W club has going with young girls in an orphanage in Sri Lanka.

Mike McManus was really glad to be doing a makeup with our club.

Manish Mehta told us about a grant he had authorized just this morning about TB eradication in India with a club in India. Project Dignity is in negotiations with a corporate sponsor. Manish also told us about a friend had sent Manish an email about a photo that he had uploaded to the Smithsonian that was now part of a presentation at the Smithsonian.

Jane McManus was really happy to be associated with all of the great clubs in District 6380 but she was especially happy to be visiting our club.

Don Broderick ended happy dollars with a story and reminder to tell those near and dear to us that we love them because we may not get another chance.

Macinac Island is Calling! Register for the 2014 District Confernce
Prez. Keith reminded us that registration is open for the District Conference May 16 - 18 at the beautiful Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island.  This is a great way to get involved with Rotary and if I heard right it is also a no tie zone! So get those registrations in and let’s represent our club!

There is a competition for clubs with the highest number of registered participants by March 15.  The winning club receives a private reception on Friday evening.  So as a reminder, registration is now open!  For information and registration please visit http://www.rotary6380conference.info/
