What a fun (and successful) golf outing! Congratulations Matt Copeland and Keith Krings and their committee for an outstanding golf outing at the Polo Fields. Our golfers, volunteers and guests enjoyed a wonderful day in the sun until around 1:30 and then a delicious steak dinner with raffles, roasts and awards. This event has certainly surpassed their event goal and thanks to the hard work of the committee, we had a great time. We're already looking forward to next year!

Over the past 2 years at the Washtenaw Alliance for Virtual Education, the Rotary of Ann Arbor West has collaborated with the program for their project "Hope Rising". The project includes local students helping a group of girls living in Sri Lanka at the Grace Care Center Orphanage. The orphanage was established as a refuge for children impacted by the Sri Lankan civil war that raged in their country for 25 years and ended in 2009.
To further this project, WAVE and Rotary A2W would like to take two local students to Sri Lanka to meet and work face-to-face with the girls in the orphanage along with Rotary Club members. By taking the students to Sri Lanka, the club believes all the girls' lives will be impacted in significant ways. This summer there will be approximately 40 people traveling to Grace Home in Trincomalee and the group will include the students along with two WAVE teachers.
WAVE students Skype regularly with the girls in Sri Lanka to learn about their lives and to assist in teaching the girls English and more about the American culture.
This coming summer there will be about 40 people going to Grace home and two of the girls from WAVE along with two WAVE teachers would like to make the trip as well to experience Grace Home in person and meet the Grace Home girls.
To fund a major portion of the trip, the girls started an aggressive fund raising effort through Go Fund Me and other events about a month ago with the goal of raising $10,000 for plane tickets and lodging. To date they have raised almost $8,000. You will have an opportunity to meet some of the Washtenaw students in the near future but here is a link to their Go Fund Me account: http://gofundme.com/srilankatrip
