Here's the latest from A2 North
After the induction of Stephanie Oliver, several announcements were made about our spring fundraiser. Laura VanSteenis announced that the theme and name of our fundraiser is the Golden Age of Hollywood. For those of you who are younger that is the era between 1920 and 1950. Think Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Cary Grant, Greta Garbo to name just a few of the actors and actresses of that era. Our Spring Fundraiser title sponsor is Jeff Crause and we have 2 additional presenting sponsors ATI Physical Therapy (Keith Krings) and Abbey Park (Tamra Ward). If you know or want to be a presenting sponsor you must let Laura VanSteenis know by Feb. 12th so that your name or logo can be included on the printed material for the fund raiser. There even more levels of sponsorship available.

The infamous little yellow tickets for our Raffle are starting to arrive for their annual visit. I don’t know about you but I intend to make their visit extremely short. These tickets are like fish after 3 days things start to smell funny. If you want to help more of the little yellow tickets find a home or if by some unfortunate delay(the weather comes to mind) they haven’t made it to your home for their visit  please see their Managers Tammy & Don Broderick. Silent Auction items and baskets are needed.  If you want to donate a basket or item please talk with Lisa Hudy. One of the special features of our fundraiser will be the red carpet treatment along with your picture being taken by the local paparazzi. Please make sure to be at the Holiday Inn North on March 29th at 6:00pm to experience the Golden Age of Hollywood.

Unfortunately there were no B.A.B.E.’s announcements.

The 50-50 drawing was won by Gail Scott. She won $17.50 Congrats!

Happy Dollars were contributed by Don Broderick and Phil Zepeda. Don gave a dollar to let us know about Vern Hutton, Gordon Nordby and Eric Tindall who were recuperating from their falls during the holiday season. Vern is recovering nicely from a complete hip replacement. When Don spoke with his wife he was engaged in his favorite pastime of playing cards with friends. Don also spoke with Gordon Nordby who is recovering from a broken ankle. Gordon is doing well with screws holding the ankle together. He is getting a lot of reading done. Tammy related to Don that Eric had fallen on the ice and broke his elbow. Fortunately Eric  was at the meeting and was scheduled to see the Dr. so that he could go back to work.  Phil put in 2 happy dollars. One was an announcement for Manish Mehta who is recovering from the flu that the Milan Rotary is committing $2000.00 to Project Dignity. Phil’s second dollar was about traveling to Jamaica with his wife Claire. Claire will be coming in to give us a picture presentation of their travels.
Welcome our newest member
Our newest member, Stephanie Oliver, was inducted at our January 23rd meeting.  Here's a little information so that you can get to know Stephanie:

Stephanie Oliver is currently the branch  manager at KeyBank on Plymouth Rd in Ann Arbor. She specializes in small business banking and lending. Stephanie graduated with a bachelors in finance from Eastern Michigan University. She also has her life and health insurance license and her 6 and 63 financial license. Stephanie has been with KeyBank for 5 years and in banking for 12. Stephanie enjoys helping her clients, acting as an advisor for all of their financial needs and being a partner in them achieving their goals. While Stephanie does enjoy  assisting clients her most important job is being a Mom to her son Alex (6) and her daughter Ava (4) and a wife to her husband of 7 years Chris. Stephanie is excited to be welcomed into the North Ann Arbor Rotary as she likes to serve in the community. Stephanie is also a member of the Junior League of Ann Arbor, a board member for Eastern Michigan University's college of Health and Human Services, secretary of Bentley Elementary PTO, a catechism teacher and co-leader of her son's Cub Scout Den. Stephanie and her family live in Canton.
Thank you, Jim Alford
Phil Zepeda introduced our speaker Jim Alford. Jim gave us a brief bio and had a slide presentation of his experience in the Army during the Vietnam War. Jim was a student at the University of Georgia when he decided to join the Army. By the time he finished basic training, he went into Officer Training School, and became a flight instructor for 2 years. While Jim was a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam he flew several different types of helicopters accumulating over 1500 hours of flight time. He served 2 tours in Vietnam. During his slide presentation he was able to show us where he flew, the different types of helicopters he flew, some of the different types of missions that he flew and he explained about the crew members he flew with. Some of the slides included the different types of bases that he flew out of. Some of the bases were huge, most were very small hill top firebases.  Jim was able to fly with several different units namely the Ghost riders and the Castle engineers during his tours of duty. Jim concluded his presentation with a brief video about the trials and hardships that he and his crew faced during the war. He is currently a flight instructor for the Michigan flight school.
