Thank you for all you do to support Rotary and to do good in the world! This year will be a busy one for our Rotary Foundation in District 6380. Please read these updates and the ones to follow for important information. I also welcome your feedback, ideas and involvement as together we can do so much more!
1. District Grants
The deadline for submission of District Grants October 1st, 2014. The process will again be online at the District 6380 website, with the same application as was used last year. The instructions and any additional information will be sent in a separate update specific to District Grants. It is expected that the process will involve few or no changes from last year.
Note: If you are a Club with a current grant, please complete your grant report and submit as soon as possible.
2. Foundation Gala
Get out your smart phone or your planner or whatever you use to record important dates. Now find Saturday, November 8th and reserve 5:00 pm until at least 8:30. You may be having such a great time you'll want to celebrate the Foundation all night. We will begin the evening with an opportunity for interactive events that will allow us to spend time together, to get updated on the Foundation in a way that doesn't involve sitting and listening and to share what is going on around the District related to grants and projects. Then of course there will be dinner and a dynamic keynote speaker. The evening will end with dessert and a final chance to interact. The location is still being finalized but will be centrally located. Please spread the word and plan to be part of a great evening for an important purpose.
3. Giving in Memory of DG George Hedgespeth
Many of you have been asking what the district is doing about giving to the Foundation in memory of George. We are still trying to determine the best decision, as there are many ideas and many facts to consider. What we do know is that there will be some project to carry out his primary goal related to Literacy. W also know that we will honor what his home Club of Birmingham is doing in all of their efforts. The other thing that we are fully committed to reach, no matter what it takes, is George's goal of giving $225,000 to our Foundation's Annual Fund this Rotary year. A few Club's have already started by doing things such as matching contributions given or considering designating a portion of the proceeds of a fundraiser. I welcome your thoughts and ideas, and I'll share them with the rest of the District if you get them to me. Please let me know your feelings as we make these decisions. And carefully consider any ways that we can move toward this goal George believed we could reach. . Failure is not an option! I will help in any way I can. Let me know if you need materials or if I can speak at you Club.
You are cordially invited to attend a mixer with the District Governor Don Riddell at the Downtown Main Martini Bar, 201 W. Main Street, Brighton on Thursday, September 18 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Non-Rotarians are welcome!
Connect with your fellow Rotarians, family and friends for a fun Rotary District 6380 Day at the Zoo.
RI President Gary Huang is encouraging all clubs to Light Up Rotary in 2014-15 by hosting Rotary Days. The concept of a Rotary Day is simple: hold a fun, informal event in your community for both Rotarians and the general public and use it as an opportunity to introduce non-Rotarians to Rotary and drive interest in membership and other opportunities for engagement. These events are also a great opportunity to get Rotary Alumni and New Generations program participants more involved in their local club. Rotarians can refer to the Rotary Days brochure for ideas on how to structure and promote their Rotary Day events.
In addition, sponsoring or participating in a Rotary Day event is one of the required activities that will help clubs qualify for the 2014-15 Presidential Citation.
