Biography of Arlene Golembiewski
Arlene volunteers as Executive Director of Sherbro Foundation Sierra Leone, a nonprofit she founded in 2013 to serve the chiefdom where she once was a Peace Corps teacher. The foundation helps lift people from poverty to self-reliance through education and economic empowerment. Beginning with girls’ scholarships in one school, Sherbro Foundation has grown to support five programs that have served 6000 of the world’s poorest people, many in villages too remote for government or NGO aid.
Learn about the community-led program that gives Sierra Leone children an education and women economic opportunity. By growing fruit trees and annual crops, Bumpeh Chiefdom can sustainably fund these programs long into the future. Two Rotary global grants sponsored by RCAA made it possible for the chiefdom to literally grow its own community's future. Arlene Golembiewski of the cooperating organization Sherbro Foundation will update us as the second grant nears conclusion. This is a project that has been made possible with the support of Ann Arbor West.
