Mr. Nick Mittica, Commercial Manager, Hydrogen Energy Systems at Air Products and Chemicals took us on a roller coaster ride of information about the development and future of hydrogen automobiles. He first got us to understand that hydrogen cars are a type of electric cars because hydrogen (extracted from the H2O molecule) is used to power the engine and subsystems that makeup the hydrogen car. He also noted that a hydrogen car leaves no carbon footprint but currently the cost per mile is much higher than a comparably gas fueled vehicle. There are more of this type of car in California where there are hydrogen filling stations and not nearly as many elsewhere.
