Allentown Rotary International Grant

WASH - Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

This project was funded by our Club with additional monies from District 7430's District Designated Funds with the Rotary Club of Pursat as our International partner managing its implementation.  The Rotary Club of Pursat received our grant monies on November 15, 2020.
This WASH Project's intent is to improve student health, school attendance and academic performance through clean water, sanitation facilities, and student hygiene education at the Koh Kro'Sang Primary School, Koh Kro'Sang Village, Pursat Province, Cambodia (see details below). Specifically, the project provides monies to:
  1. Construct and install a School BioSand Filter. This system is called the "Intermittently Operated Slow Sand Filtration (iSSF) System". The filter system is capable of filtering 24 or so liters of water per hour, or 500 liters per day, which will provide enough safe drinking water for the students and teachers.
  2. Construct and install a Trash Incinerator which will help burn school trash with minimum smoke and with the least pollution to the environment.
  3. Provide 300 water bottles for students and teachers to reduce single-use plastic waste.
  4. Provide for 20 Days for Girls (DFG) Menstrual Hygiene Kits and Education to reduce vaginal infection and school absenteeism.
  5. Provide Hygiene materials for school (soap, Brooms, trash, bins), Hygiene materials for students (soap, toothbrush, toothpaste), and Hygiene Training to principal and teachers and students, as well as, Training on how to use the BSF and Incinerator
