Christine Oaklander, coordinator for the West Park Civic Association program Arts in the Park, presented her views and hopes for this exciting community event at our Friday, Feb 23rd meeting.  Christine brings her enthusiasm for art as a volunteer to this event.

Christine is an educated art historian and her career has led her to many outstanding art museum facilities, including the Allentown Art Museum and the Baum School.  She has networked with all the local college art departments, as well as the local high school art directors.  Learn more about her by visiting her website.

Through these contacts, she has been able to enhance and expand the exhibitors at West Park, as well has added additional scholarships for young artists. This has encouraged young people from 9th grade on to compete. She has broadened the scope of exhibitions, now including sculpture.  Changes, she noted, always bring about resistance to change, but she is accomplishing much innovation despite problems of that sort!  She now sees a higher quality of exhibitor.

This years Arts in the Park will be at West Park on June 16.  Rain or shine, she also asked if anyone, Rotarian or not, would be willing to serve as co-chair!

The invocation was given by Wally Eldridge, announcements presented by President Bottitta.  Chair of the day was Ibi Balog.  So this spring, come and enjoy another special community event.
