On Monday August 24, we received notice that our Global Grant application, entitled, “Providing Virtual Classrooms to Poverty Stricken Pre-Kindergarten Children Impacted by COVID-19”, was approved. The total amount of grant is $33,750 which includes $15,000 from Rotary International, $11,250 from our District 7410, $4,200 from our own Rotary Club, and a total of $3,675 from four other Rotary clubs in our county. We teamed with the Blakeslee, Mt. Pocono, Pocono Mountains, and West End Rotary Clubs on this initiative. Funding will be provided to Pocono Services for Families and Children in direct support of their Head start programs located in East Stroudsburg and Tobyhanna Township. The project will provide virtual classroom capability to Pre-K classes, ensuring these children meet the county’s school districts Kindergarten readiness requirements. This program has another goal of improving adult literacy because of the on-line and continuing education components of this program. Committee members Dave Super, Jim Becker, Karen Bastidas and Karen DeMatteo will oversee this project for the next year.
