Nicole Chinnici from ESU shared with us what is new at the ESU Innovation Centers laboratory. They provide free tick analysis in an effort to control the Lyme disease epidemic as well as other diseases that are carried or transmitted by ticks. Pennsylvania is now the #1 state with a higher rate of incidence of tick borne diseases.
She shared some examples of tick repellents and controls. Nicole also advised to wear light colored clothing so you can spot the ticks more easily and that you can treat your clothing with repellents from the wist down. You should also dreat your pets with collars or topical treatments.
Nicole said that a rash is not always a signal of a tick bite and if you do find one, note the date of exposure and send the whole tick to the lab.
