The majority of last week's meeting was a discussion of the club's nominations for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program April 17-19 at Camp Kitaki in Louisville. Judy and Geoff, with the help of Crete High School counselor Dawn Draeger, met with four excellent candidates. RYLA organizers said there are enough spots open and the club discussed sending all four, in addition to Kaidan Smith, and decided this was an opportunity to encourage this interest in the program. The club voted for a total of five sponsorships of $200 each.

Members also discussed Rotary information for a Community Page of The Crete News, to include grocery grab details and photos.

Grocery grab tickets are now available from Jim Johnson. Members also started distributing tickets to the 14 sponsors, who each receive 1 book (10 tickets). Sponsor ticket stubs will need to be picked up prior to the ticket drawing on Tuesday, April 7. Our grocery grab promo video is now on the club facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/creterotaryclub/

Meetings at the end of February were an opportunity to brainstorm and talk about club goals, however there is still more to discuss and time for members to contribute to this ongoing discussion.

Club members are asked to continue pondering these items:
  • Favorite Rotary project - past or present - why
  • Something you want to learn about Rotary International
  • Something you want to learn about Crete Rotary
  • Meeting ideas:
    • A project you want the club to tackle/assist
    • Local/area organization you want to learn more about
    • A place you want to visit
  • 2 grant project ideas
  • 2 people you would invite to a meeting
  • 5 people you could sell grocery grab tickets

This week's meeting is a tour of the new Crete Public Library with director Joy Stevenson on Wednesday, to start at 5:15 for members who can make it early. Please join the tour when you can as there will be plenty to see and talk about.

Next week's meeting at The Brew House, Tuesday, March 17 at noon, will have a program from Steve and Ann Teget of Postcard Jar, a travel blog.
