Please read thoroughly--there's a lot of information about planning for upcoming volunteer events.

Last week, we had the pleasure of hearing from our RYLA participant, Kyia Garrelts!  She is currently a junior at Crete High School, and she had a great time at RYLA.  They arrived on Friday, got settled into their cabins, and then got ready to meet the group.  They took a personality test and was divided up into her group: Orange.  They had the most in theirs, about 14, and got to learn about themselves.  That day was meeting each other and really mingling among the students.

The next day, Rotary leaders shared about Rotary, their mission of Polio, world-wide contributions, and what Rotary is all about.  Dr. Franklin Thompson of the Lincoln city board talked about the importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and they heard from a human trafficking survivor who shared their story.  For Kyia, that was one of the most meaningful moments of the weekend.

Sunday, they all packed up and went home!  There were about 30 kids there and Kyia has made friends she feels like she's known forever during that weekend!  She had a great time, and would highly recommend it to other students.  Pictured below is Kyia Garrelts with her mother Heather Garrelts.

In preparation for the Saline County fair, Jenn L is spearheading getting a Rotary float in the parade.  The parade is July 16th at 1:30pm, but we're putting together a committee to help put the float together.  If you'd like to be a part of this committee, please reach out to Jenn (jennlampila@gmail.com) and she will add you to the group.  Of course, if you'd like to be in the parade without planning, that's fine too, just let her know.

Mary Garrison is on the DeWitt 150th Celebration board and has invited any members to the festivities the weekend of July 2nd!  They're planning a weekend of festivities, including a parade (if we want to do a trial run before the county parade).  Please look at your schedule to see if you can attend some of the events that weekend.

In addition, the BRAC is hosting a concert at the youth cabin on July 2nd that we will need Rotary to help with that evening--mainly parking.  A sign up sheet will be going around next meeting asking for help with this event.  If you can't make it, please email Tom Parker (tomkat46@aol.com) expressing interest.

The fair events we'll need help with are the beer garden, Figure 8 lap counters, and ticket takers all on Thursday July, 14.  Also recycling help the morning of the 15th and 16th.

There will be several sign up sheets going around at upcoming meetings so please either reach out if you can't make it to volunteer and ask for the times, or come to a meeting and get first dibs on your preferred time and events!

Last, but certainly not least, the speaker next meeting will be Stephanie Roth, director of the wellness program at CAMC.  She recently wrote a book called "Grief Done Differently: a faith-based guide to surviving the worst and becoming your best."  Please join us on June 22nd to hear her speak about what she does and her inspiration behind the book.
