Coats of Friendship

On October 3, the Hanover Club participated in Coats of Friendship. Coats of Friendship is a Non-Profit aiming to make the world a warmer place through doing things for people in need. Organized and operated by Elementary kids, this group is collecting warm clothing for people in need. In 2015- 85 coats distributed; in 2016- 705 coats were distributed; 2017- aiming to distribute 1000 coats.

Three of the leaders presented to the club about their organization and how they are determined to distribute 1000 coats. The club had a mini-coat drive to help them meet their goal!

More about COATS OF FRIENDSHIP. It all started when a boy named Tristan saw a YouTube video about a homeless little boy without a jacket, in 5-degree weather. He stood on the streets for 2 hours and no one helped him. Finally, another homeless person gave him his jacket and some of his money to buy food or other needs. That made Tristan so sad that he started the coat drive so everyone could have a jacket.

So we got our first donation of coats in 2015 and hung them throughout two parks in York, PA, so people who live on the streets, with no jackets, could just walk up and grab a jacket. While we were hanging the jackets, we saw a teenage girl and her mom, who were cold. She said they just moved from Florida and they didn’t need jackets in Florida, but they moved to PA and didn’t have enough money for jackets. So we got her, her family, and her neighbor's jackets. That made us (Lizzie, Troy, Tristan, Emerson, and Joey) so touched, that we are doing it again every year.

So we hope you donate your old unfitting jackets, coats, scarves, mittens, gloves, and hats, and help make a wonderful difference. THANK YOU!
