Mayor's Office of the Cultural Economy

Scott Hutcheson serves as the Senior Advisor for Cultural Economy to New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.  In that capacity he works closely with the Mayor and the Deputy Mayors to develop policy that creates infrastructure for a strong and vibrant cultural economy. Under Mr. Hutcheson’s leadership, the first Cultural Economy Snapshot, a report on the impact of culture on the New Orleans economy, was developed and is now published annually.  This Snapshot serves as a national model for cultural economy development.

Mr. Hutcheson was appointed by Lt. Governor Landrieu as the Assistant Secretary for the Office of Cultural Development and served as the State Historic Preservation Officer.  As a senior member of the Executive Management Team for the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Scott led the work of the Division of Historic Preservation, Division of Archaeology, Division of the Arts, and the state’s Cultural Economy Initiative. 

Previously, Mr. Hutcheson served as the founding Executive Director of The Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation creating a multi-million dollar fund granted to support the relief and recovery efforts of cultural organizations, artists, and cultural businesses affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita across Louisiana. 

Mr. Hutcheson is a Fellow of the Institute of Politics at Loyola University. He is the past Chairman of the Louisiana Partnership for the Arts and the Louisiana Partnership for Arts Advocacy.  During his tenure as Chairman, the Louisiana legislature allocated the largest amount of cultural funding in the state’s history.  Mr. Hutcheson holds a B.A. in Political Science and an M.A. in Speech/Theatre from Louisiana Tech University.
