The Rotary Club of Waco, the YMCA of Central Texas and the Junior League of Waco have started passing out personalized books to all first and second graders in the Waco Independent School District. The My Very Own Adventure Book program promotes reading that provides a personalized book to each student.

First and second graders at Parkdale Elementary School were among the first students to receive books that have characters personalized with the student’s name.

The My Very Own Adventure program includes stories about using good manners, perseverance and honesty.

"Our hope is that it’s just special to see your own name in print. And not every child would have the opportunity to have that. This is just a gift, it’s a book that you would read, you would find yourself in it. We that would mean you would go home and it would encourage you to read more in your own home," said Holly Burchett from Junior League of Waco.

This is the second year of the My Very Own Book Adventure program and the groups are looking to add grade levels to receive books in the future. Deliveries of the books to students at other Waco ISD schools will continue until early April.
