May 25th was an exciting day for the Rotary Club of Pflugerville because it was our annual Scholarship Awards Banquet.
This year we were able to present a total of $25,000 to 12 well deserving and grateful recipients.  Pflugerville High School won the award for the most recipients with a total of 8.  The scholarships were awarded based on having a service heart, participation in service-related activities and their academic accomplishments. Many of the students will continue their scholastic career right here in Texas at the University of Texas, Texas A&M - College Station, Texas State, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (which happens to be the Alma Mater of DGE Shannon Coleman) and the University of Houston.  We also honored students that are going out of state to prestigious universities such as Harvard.

Our largest scholarship was for $5000 and was awarded to Nigerian American Florence Ekpenyong.  Pflugerville is a very diverse community which allowed us to concentrate on RI’s goal of highlighting diversity by awarding money to an Asian American, African Americans, Mexican Americans and a second-generation immigrant from Bangladesh whose grandfather was an active Rotarian throughout his life.  We even had a student whose father immigrated from England.
DGN Bob Crouch did an incredible job as our keynote speaker.  He stressed the importance of service and always remembering to give back.  Zone Public Image Chair Patrick Harrison and PDG Rich Kaye blessed us with their attendance and support.

The Rotary Club of Pflugerville would like to say a special word of thanks to all the sponsors who made the scholarships possible, but we especially want to thank 5-time Platinum Sponsor Jason Kemp of The Growler Bar for his $4000 donation!
