Mexia Rotary Club donates water to local fire departments (07/24/2022 The Rotary Club of Mexia had an impromptu collection at their July 21st meeting which was augmented by a generous donation from Walmart to donate cases of water to eight local fire departments in the Mexia area.

This year has been especially difficult for the departments due to the increased number and intensity of grass and forest fires caused by the unusually hot and dry conditions that have led to exceptionally severe drought conditions in Texas. Only Mexia has a paid fire department, and the others are all staffed by volunteers who give their time and efforts to protect their communities. In many cases a number of departments are needed to fight a larger fire, which puts an additional strain on their limited resources. Two of the departments are pictured below with Rotarians who helped with the distribution of the cases of water. The club plans to continue the donations as the summer wears on.
