Military families have very little time together with all the long deployments and it must be a real struggle handling daily routines when they get home. Families face a big sacrifice. So the Rotary Clubs of Austin and Killeen decided to figure out a way to honor our soldiers and give them quality time together in a fun place like Austin.
With our partnerships with the hospitality industry, SSgt. Stephen Mondy and his family were hosted for a free weekend at the Hotel Van Zandt. The hotel furnished a beautiful suite with their meals and County Line served them a family style BBQ Saturday nite. The Rotary club gave the kids toys and snacks and some passes to Austin attractions. But most important- we gave them A weekend with no schedules or marching orders - just time to relax and enjoy life. SSgt. Mondy said “Thank you so much. We had a great time. I think we will save our park passes for a warmer weekend but we may stop by the aquarium with the kiddos today before we head home. We appreciate everything that was provided for us this weekend. We were made to feel so special and were greatly taken care of. Thanks again”. What a special way to show our appreciation for our soldier’s service. Thank a soldier today!
