When Texans hear the name Shiner their thoughts generally revolve around beer.
But the Cleanest Little City in Texas is known for much more than creating the finest beer in the world, it is also home of the state champion Shiner Comanches and St. Paul Cardinals.  With a population of only 2,069 people, Shiner boasts both a public school and private Catholic school, and the 2021 football season was a banner year for both. The Shiner St. Paul Cardinals won their 4th consecutive TAPPS Division 4 state football championship on December 3rd with a 36-8 win over Muenster Sacred Heart Catholic School.

Just two weeks later the Shiner Comanches followed suit by clinching their second straight 2A Division 1 state football championship with a 47-12 win over the Hawley Bearcats. You read that right – the two teams have combined for 6 Texas high school football championships over the past 4 years. Whether football or beer, picking Shiner is always a good bet.

On January 12th the Shiner Rotary Club honored both teams by hosting the senior football players and their coaches for lunch.
