St. John’s – The recently held Rotary Club of Antigua Sundown (RCAS) Pediatric Village offered a free health screening to over one hundred and forty (140) children in preparation of the new school year. Free eye and dental exams were among the services available at the event held on Saturday 27th August at the University of the West Indies Open Campus (UWIOC) Antigua.
“Research shows that healthy students have a better attendance and perform better in school” said Herald Rolland RCAS President. “Our club has a profound commitment to the community and will continue to work on improving community health through partnership and collaborations with local partners.”
The Pediatric Village, which was open to children from five (5) to eighteen (18) years old, also included screenings for ear, nose and throat, blood glucose, body mass index.
Said Jenelle Allen, Chairperson of the Pediatric Village Planning Committee: “We’re all so proud after hosting such a successful event and it could not have happened without the commitment of all our partners and volunteers who share our values of community and compassion.”
Continued Ms. Allen: “Ultimately our goal is to serve and we’re happy that we got a chance to do that for so many children.”
