ANNOUNCEMENTS

GARY REILLY thanked Jeff Patchen for the Camp Onseyawa golf tournament forms he sent on e-mail and on all the tables. There will be a virtual silent auction June 5-12.  Newark already has 3 teams ready to attend the tournament. This year the camp will have 1 week in-person and 1 virtual week.

JOANNE SPEIGHT was pleased to announce that there are only 2 spots left for the Bob  Goodman Blood Drive on April 20th.

PRESIDENT DONNA announced that the BEST FIND contest is inspiring young people to join in the canal clean-up on April 24th.  Thursday, April 29th is the rain-date when there will be no Rotary meeting.

LUCINA HALLAGAN as chairman of the DEI committee announced a RACIAL EQUITY CHALLENGE to be completed in 21 days.  You will find the link on your e-mail.  The first person to complete the challenge can give their June BBQ tickets to Lucina to sell.  On May 10th there will be a drawing for a $75 Amazon gift card.

JAN HENCE thanked all the volunteers that worked at the recent BBQ on such a cold rainy day -

Kevin and Lynn Mooney, John Zornow, Jim Weiler, Peter Blandino, Bruce Chambers, JoAnne Speight, Paul and Jeanne Salisbury.

We made over $2,000 with 170 walk-ins.  We were unable to do drive up deliveries.  If you are unable to work, please send a replacement - they don’t have to be Rotarians.

Our next BBQ is on Father’s Day, June 20th.

KAREN Q apologized for missing the BBQ.  Karen represented our DEI Committee at the District Training Assembly on Saturday ahead of the BBQ and understandably woke up late on Sunday.

NORMA REILLY thanked Karen for a great presentation at the DTA and matched Karen’s fine.  Norma noticed that participants from her home country of the Philippines had joined the virtual District Training and said they had been learning from our web master Marc Kreuser!!  YAY MARC

FRED HICKS, in his subtle way of asking us to support the Foundation, reminded us of the death of Paul Harris in 1947 where he requested “no flowers, just money”.

LINDA WERTS invited us to watch a U-tube video regarding the situation at the border in preparation for next week’s speaker on Rural Ministry.

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION

Cindy Timerson has been extremely active in our community, teaching computer classes, leading women of faith, being an athletic and band booster, coaching girls basketball and softball- just to name a few.

We will miss her contributions to our Rotary club when she moves to North Carolina in the near future.

SPEAKER - SUSAN HASENAUER

Russ Harris, Rotarian and school board member, introduced our new Superintendent of Newark Central Schools.

Susan lives in Penfield with her two daughters and comes to us from her most recent job in Brockport.

Susan has 27 years of education - 16 in leadership roles.  She taught 1st, 4th, and 6th grade in Rochester.  She has also been an assistant principal and principal.

She is happy to be here in Newark - She loves the “home town vibe”.

She noted that in a recent newspaper article the Newark Music Education was rated the best in the area.  Following a year of virtual learning the middle school and high school will open to four days a week in-person on April 19th

Sue has a passion for strategic planning and curriculum development.

With the help of the assistant superintendent of business, Ed Gnau, Susan went through a detailed budget explanation.

We look forward to her leadership as Superintendent of Newark Central Schools.

Our speaker next week will be Shawn Tallent from Rural and Migrant Ministry talking about the situation at the Mexican border.  We are invited to watch THE WORST JOB IN NEW YORK:IMMIGRANT AMERICA  https://youtube/QXUdozfL7iM
