Habitat For Humanity envisions a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
The Lima Area chapter of Habitat For Humanity was founded in 1991 with the mission of building homes for those who may not otherwise be able to afford them. Volunteer Coordinator Mark Suderman told us the homes are not given to the families, rather, they are sold to them at cost with a no interest loan. The families are also required to put in sweat equity, joining the teams of volunteers in the building of their homes. In the past 27 years, Habitat For Humanity has constructed 54 homes in Allen County, with the most recent one in Delphos. They have plans to begin their 55th home this spring in Elida. Suderman says they're also planning to begin a repair program next year to fix up homes for low income families who can't afford to have the work done.
Also at Monday's meeting, Katy Page, Jeff Lee and Ben Swartz received their red badges.
President Paul reported that we've raised $1,963 for Polio Plus. If we top last year's total of $4,473, Paul will donate an extra $500.
Tracie Sanchez announced that we served 450 people at our Fall Blood Clinic and raised $8,845 for the Lima Rotary Foundation.
