How healthy is your heart?
February is Heart Month and Dr. Pamela Gardner, Physician Assistant Natalie Lammers, and Clinical Manager Jessica Cunningham from Lima Memorial Health System took questions from club members about heart health. Dr. Gardner says the signs of a heart attack are many and varied: "Chest pressure; nausea; tightness; burning; pain in the neck, jaw or shoulder blades. My husband had a heart attack. His right eardrum burned. The pattern is, it comes on when you're doing something. It goes away when you stop and rest. If you get that, you need to figure out what it is because it may well be your heart. If you suspect you're having a heart attack, Dr. Gardner says that getting help right away can prevent further damage. "If you have a heart attack and we can't get that vessel opened quickly, that now becomes scar tissue. Scar tissue doesn't move. It does not propel the blood. So, 9-1-1 if you're in trouble. Don't hesitate"
Lima Memorial offers a $99 Cardiac Calcium Score Screening that can help detect calcium or plaque in your coronary arteries. It takes 10 minutes and could save your life. Call 419-226-5030 to schedule your screening.
