The first Global Grant produced by District 6600 and The Lima Rotary club is in its final stages of implementation.
The grant was for $197,000 to introduce and implement a sanitation and hygiene program in the Merendon Mountains of Honduras, started in 2015. This grant which began after a community assessment and dialog with the citizens of the Merendons has taken advantage of TRF research in to what works best when doing grants in the field for sanitation and hygiene. This grant was before the TRF Current “WASH” program. We incorporated in to the grant teaching the concepts to adults and children at the same time as we installed latrines in home and schools. PWW has an excellent program to implement this type of curriculum. It involves teaching “promotors” and school teachers the concepts of good hygiene and sanitation.
To date we have installed 127 of a planned 135 latrines and five schools. Sustainability has been a key item in our planning and to date we have been very successful in maintaining the cooperation of the citizenry.

These photos represent a school latrine, a class of promotors and school teachers, and one promotor wearing the pride of the grant!
