LCR - ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR 2014-15
(left) was presented with the Hartland-Lake Country Rotary Rotarian of the Year Award for 2014-15 at a club meeting held on June 5, 2015. A member of our club since July 10, 1978, Dennis is a first class act!
Bearing in mind that every Rotary club belongs to a much larger picture, known as Rotary International, Dennis does more than his share of making sure that Hartland- Lake Country Rotary stays within these guidelines. For the past ten years, Dennis and his team of fellow Rotarians have been doing a vision project in Haiti First of all, they collect and/or purchase prescription glasses and sunglasses. They check people’s vision and give out glasses to men, women and children in Haiti. This has been enthusiastically received by the people. Many had poor eyesight for years and years and were delighted to be able to read their bibles or sew and do other intricate work or to see in the distance. 2015 was a record year in that 2,828 people were served in ten days, about 1,000 more than the previous record!
A number of years ago, this club brought over a little boy from Haiti by the name of Emauele, who needed eye surgery. After having his surgery and recovery time here in the United States, Emanuele went back to Haiti. Dennis and his wife, Carol, continue to to support his tuition costs so that he can finish his schooling. Emanuele and his mother are extremely grateful to Dennis and Carol for this extraordinary opportunity.
Dennis is also just a great all around Rotarian. He works tirelessly as the chairman of the International Service committee and volunteers for many of the club's service projects. We enjoy his friendship and sense of humor at our weekly meetings. He is just a great human being to be associated with. We are all better for having you as our fellow Rotarian and friend, Dennis. Thanks for all you do in "Service Above Self."
