What a great experience it was to be one of nearly 400 attendees at North Central President Elect Training in Rochester, MN last weekend.

I'm inspired to lead the club as we head into The Rotary Club of Hopkins' 79th Year.  Having been part of the club for 11 years, I've gotten to know our elders and I'm passionate about engaging the next generation of Rotarians to continue our club's longstanding Legacy of Service Above Self.

Here's a photo of me and District Governor Elect, Mark Hegstrom, as I received my Banner for the 2016-2017 Rotary Year.

Our Global Rotary Theme will be:
ROTARY SERVING HUMANITY

The coming year is also a big year in Rotary because it is not only the 111th Year of Rotary and the 100th anniversary of The Rotary Foundation,   but this next Rotary year could be the year we see the last cases of wild Polio in the world.  More than two billion children have been vaccinated by Rotarians since 1985, when there were more than 387,000 cases of Polio in the world.  Last year, there were only 71!  We are down to just two countries left: Pakistan & Afghanistan.

To get the job done, and #EndPolioNow, many of us Club Presidents-Elect agreed to set a goal of raising $2,650 from each of our clubs for this specific goal.

We learned how important it is to create community awareness so that not only Rotarians participate but non-Rotarians alike.  I've already been meeting with key partners in our community to facilitate a more collaborative experience in our local club.

We have many "Friends of Rotary" that may not be Club Members but are always there to support our Club's initiatives.

Rotary has a pulse on the community - locally & globally.

It's my true honor to lead with our motto in mind: "Service Above Self".

Our job is to "create awareness and take action" on pressing needs facing our local and global community.

Yours in Service,

Suzanne Lundeen Abrams
