My Rotary Journey
Oct. 20, 2016
Woodrow "Wooj" Byun received a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship from his hometown Rotary Club in Busan, Korea in 1990. With this simple gesture, they created the path for Byun to become an American student, lawyer, global citizen, and a Rotarian himself. From that moment on, Byun was committed to Rotary’s motto of “service above self.” Originally joining Rotary as a way to pay back his scholarship, he quickly embraced the organization’s giving spirit, freely donating his time and talents to help make the world a better place. In Wooj's book, My Rotary Journey, he details how he tutored a group of elderly Korean immigrants so they could pass the US citizenship test, organized a concert by a disabled Korean pianist to inspire a boy with the same handicap, wrote multiple books to help Koreans in the United States understand the legal system, helped an adopted American woman find her birth mother in Korea, and was a tireless cheerleader for Rotary locally, nationally, and internationally by serving as president of the Rotary Club in Edina, Minnesota. Musical Performance
Oct. 27, 2016
The Hopkins Choral program, under the leadership of Director Philip Brown, has a reputation for greatness, as singers have seen their hard work pay off with top accolades at festivals and highest honors at competitions. Mr. Brown has led the choirs for the past 10 years, nearly all of which have seen the same impressive results at the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) competition and tours such as Festival Disney in Florida. Our Club has enjoyed their performances for many years. We are thrilled to have the A Capella Groups: Geoff (men) and Midori (women) share their gift of song with Hopkins Rotary once again. |
