The Rotary Club of Edina recently presented scholarships to deserving graduates of Edina High School.
The Rotary Club of Edina presents scholarships to graduating Edina seniors who exemplify the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” and have participated in Rotary programs such as Camp Enterprise, Camp RYLA, fall ethics seminar, Vocational Ethics Day, youth exchange, Edina Rotary Global Scholars or the Interact Club of Edina.
The club presented $1,500 scholarships to Eleanor Karthaus and Olivia Tran and a four-year renewable $1,000 scholarship to Kate Brown. All three women are Edina Rotary Global Scholars.
Karthaus was part of the badminton team, band and Project Earth at Edina High School. She was also part of Academic World Quest, served as a Hornet Mentor and volunteered for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Helping Paws. Karthaus will study biomedical engineering to one day improve the lives of those suffering from chronic illnesses.
Tran was a Student Ambassador of the high school’s study abroad program to South Korea, member of the Academic World Quest team and served as Treasurer of the Interact Club. She has her black belt in Taekwondo and was a volunteer instructor for two years. Tran is attending the University of St. Thomas to study marketing.
During high school, Brown was a member of the Alpine Ski and Synchronized Swimming teams. She was a Hornet mentor, volunteered at a local community garden and worked as a nanny. She is attending the University of San Diego in California this fall, where she will major in international business and marketing. Besides the Global Scholars program, Brown participated in the Interact Club of Edina and the Rotary Club of Edina’s spring vocational ethics day program and was a student guest at a club meeting.
