Two members of the Edina High School Interact Club visited today to sell tickets to their upcoming Skate to End Polio event and invite us to attend. Aashna Kumar and Addison Bleske gave us an update on the Interact club’s activities and spoke about the event. Skate to End Polio will be held Feb 14 at Braemar – a great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day!

Sutton McGraw invited us all to attend Bowling Hight on Feb 22 (note: this is a new date). Several people have asked her to put them on teams together but have not registered. Please register for the event if you plan to attend!

Bill McReavy introduced our speaker, Lori Kearney. Lori is a Certified Integrative Health Coach with Mindful Health, a business she started to help others with wellness and nutrition. She was inspired to start her business after suffering a traumatic brain injury after a bicycle crash with a car in 2012. After more than two years being treated for her injury and being told by her doctors there was nothing more they could do to relieve the chronic headaches and related vision problems, she decided she needed to treat herself. She focused on nutrition and yoga and noticed improvement over time. Along with that, she developed a positive attitude, and realized that suffering is optional – we can all heal ourselves. In 2015, Lori started her business to spread the word to others.

Emotional intelligence and resilience are two related qualities that can be taught. Resilience is “the capacity for stress-related growth”, according to Forbes.  Lori identified 12 tips to cultivate resilience:
  1. Think positive
  2. Know setbacks are temporary
  3. Do something today
  4. Practice self-compassion
  5. Remember past victories
  6. Be grateful
  7. Have a coping resource toolbox
  8. Work through your emotions
  9. Nothing is personal
  10. Laugh often
  11. Trust your path
  12. Get support
After a short Q&A with some additional recommendations, Jennifer Bennerotte thanked Lori for her presentation, and noted that our club will make a donation in Lori’s name to Shelter Box.

Josh adjourned the meeting at 1:30.
