All members who have sponsored a new member in the last five years stood and were recognized by the membership. We were reminded that there is a Prospective Member Day scheduled for April 27, and each member is encouraged to invite a prospective member. President Platt said that plans are underway for a drawing available only to those that invite a prospective member. Please consider who you can invite.

Rotarian Andrea Thompson Miller provided an overview of her life and career. Andrea is a regional sales director. She talked about and shared photographs depicting her far-reaching interests, including yoga, dancing, gemology, waterskiing and traveling. She shared information about her son and daughter, and announced her upcoming nuptials at Lake Okoboji, Iowa.
The speaker for today was Mike Max. Mike is the sports anchor and reporter for WCCO. Mike’s presentation was inspiring and funny and poignant. With stories of death and life and a little history thrown in, Mike Max gave us messages that we can all live by, including:

  • Don’t blame others.
  • If you want something done, do it yourself.
  • The most important ingredients for success are attitude and effort, and, fortunately, we can control them both.
  • Live with gratitude and graciousness.
  • We’re all afraid to fail. Overcome it.
  • Success is not about the product, it’s about the people.
The presentation by Mike Max was very well received by the entire audience.

President Platt ended with a sports quote by Herb Brooks: “Let me start with issuing you a challenge: Be better than you are. Set a goal that seems unattainable, and when you reach that goal, set another one even higher.”
