Our Rotary District has two Global Scholar scholarships available for fall 2019. Some of you will remember the Ambassadorial Scholar Program which brought us Wooj from Korea. The Global Scholar program is the current manifestation of this idea within Rotary.

This is all about funding for graduate school for two students from our local District 5950 area that want to pursue a masters degree in one of Rotary's 6 areas of focus at a university overseas.

Please spread the word about this special opportunity and contact David Clynes or Shelly Loberg with any questions. An email was recently sent out to all members with this info and the scholarship terms and conditions and application form.

The 6 areas of focus in Rotary are:

  • Promoting peace
  • Fighting disease
  • Providing clean water
  • Saving mothers and children
  • Supporting education
  • Growing local economies
The District 5950 website does mention this program and that documents are due by end of September, but this year the documents of application for study starting Fall of 2019 were not advertised throughout the District until late so we need to help spread the word. Completed applications are due to the district committee by Oct. 30.

The action we request on your part is to share this email with anyone or any organization that you think may know of someone who might be a good candidate for this program. For example, David Clynes shared news of this program with my friends at the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Minnesota that might have some standout students planning graduate study in water quality.  Conscientious efforts like this will help to ensure our District gets a solid set of applicants.

This general program is described on our district website but the documents there have yet to be updated. Please use the documents included in the email you received, or contact David or Shelly for what you need.
