All Rotarians are invited to volunteer at the American Society for the Blind National Conference, which takes place June 30–July 10 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Minneapolis. Groups of volunteers are also needed to greet and help conference goers arriving and leaving at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Barbara Devlin, a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Richfield, has made area Rotary clubs aware of this short-term community service opportunity.

Approximately 1,000 blind and visually impaired people from across the United States and several foreign countries are coming to Minneapolis for the 2016 conference and convention of the American Council of the Blind, scheduled for June 30 to July 10 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis.

Rotarians are invited to be among the many sighted volunteers needed to assist with the conference. Volunteers should be able to work a three- to four-hour shift (7 to 11 a.m., 11 A.M.–3 p.m., 3 to 7 p.m. or 7 to 11 p.m.).

Individual Rotarians can sign up online to volunteer in a variety of ways throughout the 10-day conference here

However, Rotary clubs in close proximity to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport may wish to consider volunteering as a group to welcome/guide conference attendees arriving at the airport (June 30—July 3) and/ or to return conference attendees to the airport (July 8—9).

Rotarians willing to volunteer at the airport should register online and also notify Barb Devlin (coordinator from Richfield Rotary Club) at bdevlinmn@aol.com, and to provide their name, mailing address, e-mail address, phone number and Rotary Club affiliation for use in obtaining security clearance from Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport.

Barb Devlin is hoping many area Rotary clubs “provide service above self” to blind individuals attending the ACB Conference. Thank you for your consideration in volunteering on behalf of the Rotary Club of Edina, and feel free to contact Barb if you have any questions.
